Tad Motors opens first electric vehicle line in Nairobi
Tad Motors has officially entered Kenya’s electric vehicle market with the unveiling of its first EV lineup at a high-profile launch ceremony in Nairobi.
The ceremony brought together an influential mix of government leaders, diplomats, investors, and technology partners, many of whom described the moment as a major milestone for the country’s transportation future.
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr. Korir Sing’Oei delivered the keynote speech, urging global investors to recognize Kenya’s rapidly growing innovation landscape.
“Kenya is open for investment. We are building an environment where ideas like Tad Motors can grow across the continent and beyond,” he said, highlighting the nation’s goal of becoming a regional center for clean mobility.
South Sudan’s Embassy was represented by Ambassador Ida, who emphasized the importance of strengthening regional partnerships.
She stressed that Africa’s development relies on unity and shared aspirations, stating, “Innovation knows no borders — and cooperation shouldn’t either.”
UNEP’s Programme Officer for Sustainable Mobility, Alexander Koerner, brought a global environmental perspective, underscoring the need for a rapid shift toward cleaner transport.
“Transitioning to electric vehicles is not just innovative — it’s essential for the climate,” he remarked, aligning Tad Motors' mission with international climate goals.
Tad Motors CEO Eng. Tadesse Tessema expressed deep appreciation for the partners and policymakers who supported the company’s journey to this milestone.
“We’re grateful and inspired by the backing of our partners, innovators, and community,” he said, noting that government support has played a vital role.
“The Kenyan government’s commitment to sustainable industrialization has been key to realizing this vision.”
Attendees were introduced to the company’s flagship EV lineup, which includes premium urban cruisers (Dhahabu), mid-size family vehicles (Taji), compact eco-friendly options (Amani), luxury executive models (Fahari), and rugged utility vehicles (Makena)—each designed to meet Africa’s diverse mobility needs.
The showcase highlighted Tad Motors’ ambition not only to produce vehicles but to transform transportation through locally driven innovation and sustainability.
The company emphasized that this launch is just the beginning, with future plans to expand production across Africa through strategic collaborations, local assembly, and continued investment in green technology.
