Africa's first hybrid car battery lab launched by Kenya
The first hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) battery laboratory in Africa is now open to Kenyans looking for environmentally friendly automobiles.
In order to meet the nation's increasing demand for hybrid vehicles, Japan's Vehicle Service Centre (JVSC) opened the facility in collaboration with Cars Kenya Ltd. It will offer vital services including battery testing, analysis, and reconditioning.
Many imported cars arrive with only a few years of battery life left, and HEV batteries normally last ten years.
Kenyan car owners will now have local access to the assistance they need to maintain their vehicles thanks to this new facility.
Nearly half of all automobiles on Japanese roads now are hybrids, according to Sam Wanjema, Managing Director and Founder of cars Kenya Ltd.
"The hybrid era has brought green energy benefits to the environment," he stated, pointing to the advantages that hybrid automobiles' lower emissions have for the environment.
Japanese automotive specialist Hitoshi Kitamura verified to Kenya's preparedness to assist the expanding demand for hybrid cars.
"It is a significant milestone that the first hybrid vehicle battery laboratory in Africa has been launched," he said.
With over 350 registered EVs, Kenya's electric vehicle (EV) sector is still expanding. The number of EVs rose by 729 units between February and June 2023.
Additionally, businesses are spending money on infrastructure that can lower operating expenses, such solar-powered charging stations.
According to the global Electric Vehicle Outlook 2024, which highlights positive developments in emerging markets, Kenya is currently one of the nations witnessing a rise in the use of electric vehicles.
