ABISA launches East Africa's fastest electric vehicle supercharger

With the establishment of its first ultrafast charging hub by Kabisa, one of East Africa's leading EV service providers, Rwanda is once again at the forefront of Africa's shift to electric mobility. This innovative project represents a significant turning point in the region's commercial EV adoption, providing a practical, affordable, and environmentally friendly substitute for conventional fossil fuel transportation.

 
The astounding 240 kW power output of the new ultrafast charging facility, which is situated at SP's Kanombe station in Kigali, is far higher than the 7.43 kW to 22 kW range currently available in the majority of charging stations in the city.
 
Now that most EVs can be charged in 15 to 25 minutes, commercial operators who depend on efficiency to keep their fleets moving will have much less downtime.
 
Electric commercial trucks can now effectively transport goods throughout East Africa, from Rwanda to important port cities like Mombasa and Dar es Salaam, thanks to this discovery, which is a crucial step in revolutionizing regional logistics. 
 
With its progressive regulations and incentives that promote investment in environmentally friendly transportation, Rwanda has been leading Africa's EV revolution.
 
With 26 charging stations—seven of which are at SP stations—Kabisa has already created Rwanda's largest public EV charging network. This network is strengthened by the new ultrafast charging center at Kanombe, which is well situated close to Kigali International Airport and the Free Trade Zone, a busy commercial transportation route.
 
Kabisa's managing director, Pophia Muhoza, highlighted the company's future ambition during the inaugural ceremony. "We are pleased to welcome the first Kabisa Supercharger to all EVs. Our goal to build an easy-to-use, lightning-fast EV charging network throughout East Africa is only getting started. We are dedicated to making it possible for companies and people to fully benefit from electric mobility, including reduced emissions, healthier air, and cost savings."
 
Yves Legrux, CEO of SP Rwanda, underlined this idea and emphasized the organization's commitment to sustainable mobility: For many years, SP Kanombe has been as a major trading hub connecting Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Our dedication to offering exceptional road user service and assisting Rwanda's transition to environmentally friendly transportation is in line with our hosting of this ultrafast charger.
 
The EV switch is already having a positive impact on Rwanda's flourishing economic environment. An NGO called Solid'Africa, which works to combat nutrition insecurity, has exploited EV adoption to cut expenses and promote sustainability. CEO Nassir Katuramu discussed how operations have changed as a result of the move to electric vehicles.
 
A daring step toward East Africa's electrified future is Kabisa's new superfast charging facility. The region's transportation landscape will continue to be shaped by investments in sustainable mobility infrastructure as companies become more aware of the financial and environmental advantages of adopting EVs.
 
One charge at a time, Rwanda is establishing itself as a pioneer in Africa's clean energy transition with sustained government assistance, private sector cooperation, and strategic infrastructure development.
