Kibo Africa introduces the Kibo 160E Evolution motorcycle in Kenya

The Kibo 160E Evolution bike, manufactured by Kibo Africa, has been introduced to the Kenyan market with pricing beginning at Ksh. 279,000 and is aimed at youthful city inhabitants.

The bike, according to Kibo, is designed to give optimum comfort and power while managing city traffic while being fuel efficient and ecologically benign. It sports a 160cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, a load weight of 200kg, and a lower riding height for greater tarmac road stability.

Kenya's motorbike sector is expanding as more people seek more convenient transportation options. According to the Motorcycle Assemblers Association of Kenya, between 25,000 and 35,000 motorcycles are constructed locally each month, and the number of newly registered motorbikes increased by 15.6% between 2020 and 2021.

In the next three years, Kibo Africa plans to raise its yearly capacity to 50,000 bikes from its current 10,000 bikes. Additionally, the business has successfully imported technology to manufacture 38 of the bike's components in Kenya, with the goal of localising 30% of the components in the same amount of time. By Q1 2024, Kibo wants to work with regional producers to shift the production of vital parts including mufflers and exhaust.

Huib van de Grijspaarde, CEO of Kibo Africa, stated, "We took the K160E as an opportunity to better help young Kenyans do more by saving a lot of time on their commutes and expressing their spirit of adventure through how they move. Our mobility solutions are intended to match our consumers' lifestyles while being affordable and ecologically conscientious."

We have dedicated ourselves to improving Kenyans' lives along our value chain throughout our journey. Our clients gain from the industry-leading goods, and our partners, workers, and distributors expand thanks to the local assembly and distribution networks we have. To better meet the demands of the urban Kenyan citizen, the K160E is the next stage in our growth trajectory, he continued.

In his keynote presentation, Deputy Director for Industries Gideon Oele, PS, Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry Dr Juma Mukhwana underlined the government's delight with Kibo Africa's achievements in localising motorbike manufacture in the nation.

"The development of Kenya's manufacturing sector will be aided by this significant step towards improving the capability and calibre of indigenous engineering teams. Furthermore, Kibo's vision to create opportunities for all people by providing access to safe and reliable mobility, as well as to challenge the market with an entrepreneurial spirit that delivers trusted quality, is admirable," said Dr Mukhwana.

Kibo Africa joined the Kenyan market in 2017 with 82 direct workers and collaborations with numerous logistics businesses to increase market connections while creating employment and economic prospects for millions of Kenyans. By the end of 2025, the firm hopes to increase direct employment to 400 and indirect employment to 1000.
